// Remote operation

Operate through the station PC

The station PC remains connected to the FT-710 by USB. A second Windows PC connects through the 710 Console relay using a short-lived share code.

What you need

  • A Windows 10/11 x64 station PC connected to the FT-710 and working locally
  • A second Windows PC running a compatible 710 Console version
  • Internet access on both PCs

No inbound ports, router changes or VPN are required. Both computers make outbound WSS connections to the relay.

Pair the two PCs

  1. On the station PC, confirm CAT, spectrum and audio work locally.
  2. Open REMOTE, enable station remote operation and select Generate Code.
  3. Copy the nine-character code. It expires after five minutes and works once.
  4. On the remote PC, open REMOTE, paste the code and select Connect.
  5. Confirm radio state, spectrum and receive audio arrive before attempting transmit.

Only the station PC touches the radio. Keep it powered, connected and running for the full remote session.

Audio and PTT

At the station, select the FT-710 USB RX and TX endpoints. At the remote PC, select the microphone and speakers/headphones you actually want to use.

Receive and transmit audio use Opus in 20 ms packets with an adaptive jitter buffer. Control, audio and scope use separate channels so waterfall traffic does not hold up PTT.

Start with low transmit drive, confirm ALC on the radio and increase only as required.

Transmit safety

The station grants a short PTT/TUNE lease. The remote sends a heartbeat every 150 ms; if heartbeats stop for 500 ms—or the link, audio or app fails—the station releases transmit. Remote commands are checked at the station before they run.

One remote operator is supported per station session.

Troubleshooting

Code rejected or expired

Generate a new code at the station. Codes are single-use and expire after five minutes. Check that both PCs have internet access and compatible app versions.

Control works but no audio

Recheck the radio USB endpoints at the station and the listening/microphone endpoints at the remote. Use Help → Audio check… on the affected PC.

No spectrum

Run Help → Scope check… on the station PC. The remote cannot repair a missing local FT4222 path.

Connection keeps dropping

Check firewalls allow outbound secure WebSocket traffic, test without a VPN/proxy and confirm both PCs have a stable internet connection. A relay outage also prevents pairing.

PTT will not stay on

The safety lease is being withheld or lost. Resolve the connection/audio status shown on both PCs; do not try to defeat the watchdog.
