CW controls and keyboard keying

CAT and CW use different COM ports

Radio setting: set the FT-710's PC KEYING option to DTR before using keyboard CW.

Radio CW controls

Open the CW tab and use Select CW mode. Current production controls include:

• Internal keyer on/off
• Break-in on/off
• Key speed from 4–60 WPM
• CW pitch from 300–1050 Hz
• CW delay using the FT-710's documented values

Semi/full break-in selection remains on the radio; CAT exposes break-in on/off and the delay value.

FT-710 memory playback

Select the radio memory bank, then use PLAY 1 through PLAY 5. STOP PLAYBACK stops the radio's memory sequencer and releases transmit safely.

Radio memory playback is separate from keyboard CW. The messages themselves are stored and managed by the FT-710.

Keyboard CW

1. Connect CAT normally on the Enhanced COM port.
2. Select the FT-710 Standard COM port under CW KEYING PORT.
3. Confirm the readiness text reports that CW keying is ready.
4. Enter text, choose speed and optional local sidetone settings.
5. Use SEND to transmit, STOP / ABORT to release DTR immediately, and CLEAR to empty the text.

The tone pitch and volume beside keyboard CW control a sidetone generated locally through the selected PC speaker. Hearing that tone does not by itself prove that RF is being transmitted.

If keyboard CW does not key RF

• Confirm CAT uses Enhanced COM and CW keying uses Standard COM.
• Set PC KEYING = DTR on the radio.
• Enable the required break-in mode for RF transmission.
• Close other programs using the Standard COM port.
• Read the on-screen readiness status; it reports missing, busy and conflicting ports.
• Use STOP / ABORT if keying must be released immediately.
